Drones 'may be confiscated' over Brow Head as Star Wars shoot begins

A ‘NO-Fly zone’ restriction will be implemented on Brow Head in West Cork next week, as Star Wars films scenes on the scenic headland.

The instruction, from the Irish Aviation Authority, has been published on their website, and restricts the flying of aircraft on May 16th-18th.

The restriction specifically mentions that no drones may be operated in the area on the dates in question.

It is believed this is to restrict the possibility of any shots of filming getting into the media, creating ‘spoilers’ for the next film in the Hollywood franchise.
Drones flying illegally in the area may be seized by gardai, it says.
But it adds: ‘State aircraft and aircraft of the Irish Coastguard Service employed on an operational mission shall be exempt from the restriction.’
The area on Brow Head has been in preparation for filming in recent weeks, with steel trails and tracks for cameras laid on the well-known beauty spot, close to Crookhaven village and near Mizen Head.

It is believed the cast will be in situ this weekend to film particular scenes over the coming days. Filming is also taking place this week and next in Donegal and Loop Head in Co Clare.
