CASTLEHAVEN surged to the top of the McCarthy Insurance Group Division 1 table after an incredible comeback win over Nemo Rangers.

Seanie Cahalane’s team were ten points behind with 12 minutes left and two-pointers were the main source of their recovery scores, as they eventually won 1-19 to 2-15.

The 2024 county champions were 1-10 to 0-6 adrift at half time but showed great battling qualities. Cork footballer Conor Cahalane, Danny O’Donovan (two each) and Cathal Maguire all converted long-range shots to win it for Haven. Cahalane top-scored with 0-8 while other contributors included O’Donovan (0-4), Maguire (0-3), Jamie Walsh (1-1) and Micheál Maguire (0-3).

Clonakilty, like Castlehaven, have ten points after David Lowney’s late equalising goal earned them a 1-12 apiece draw away to St Finbarr’s. The Barrs led 0-11 to 0-10 at the break. The city side’s Trevor Howe looked to have won it with a goal late on but Lowney, who also scored a two-pointer, salvaged a point for the Brewery Town. Other Clon scorers were Darragh Gough (0-4), Thomas Clancy, Sean McEvoy (0-2 each), Brian White and Cian O’Donovan.

Newcestown are in third place following their fourth draw of the campaign, this time at home to Knocknagree, 0-13 each. The West Cork club trailed 0-9 to 0-5 at the break and 0-12 to 0-5 after 33 minutes. Seamus O’Sullivan’s scores in particular dragged them back into contention; he finished with 0-6. Tadhg Twomey (0-3), Jack Meade (0-2), Eoghan Collins and Colm Dinneen also chipped in.

Carbery Rangers are in fifth after Éire Óg beat them 2-17 to 3-12. Daniel Goudling was the star for the victors while Paul Hodnett (2-4), Dylan O’Neill (1-2), Daragh Hayes (0-3), Timmy Cullinane (0-2) and John O’Rourke were on target for Rangers. Also, Douglas saw off Cill na Martra 1-17 to 2-13.

Castletownbere recorded their first win in Division 2 when they beat O’Donovan Rossa, 1-20 to 0-14. Both clubs occupy the relegation places. There were also victories for Carrigaline and Uibh Laoire over St Michael’s and Ballincollig respectively while Béal Átha’n Ghaorthaidh and Valley Rovers shared the spoils.

Bandon suffered a 2-14 to 0-8 defeat to Rockchapel in Division 3, leaving the Lilywhites in sixth. Kanturk, Naomh Abán, Kilshannig and Newmarket earned wins over Mallow, Aghabullogue, Bishopstown and Fermoy respectively.

Adrigole are just one point off the top two in Division 4 after seeing off Kiskeam 0-18 to 0-12. The Beara club were 0-8 to 0-4 up at the break as Jack Crowley, Neil O’Sullivan, Sean O’Sullivan, Darragh O’Sullivan and Tommy O’Sullivan were on target.

Gabriel Rangers sit just outside the relegation spots following a 0-14 to 0-13 win over Kilmurry – Sean Kelleher, Lorcan O’Brien, Ger O’Callaghan, Paddy O’Driscoll and Keith O’Driscoll contributed to Rangers’ tally. Aghada and Macroom beat Buttevant and Glanmire while Nemo Rangers drew with Boherbue.

Mitchelstown inter-county duo Cathail O’Mahony and Seán Walsh proved too hot to handle for Bantry Blues in their Division 5 loss, 5-16 to 2-18. Ilen Rovers’ top-two hopes took a hit in their narrow defeat to St Nick’s, 1-14 to 1-12.

Kilmacabea are setting the pace in Division 6. The junior A county champions beat Glenville 2-16 to 2-5. Damien Gore (0-9), Ian Jennings (1-3), Eammon Shanahan (1-2), John Keating, Donnacha McCarthy and Keith Whelton all chipped in for Kilmacs.

Argideen Rangers recorded their first win of the season, 2-9 to 0-6 over Na Piarsaigh. The Timoleague club’s scorers included Ger Crowley (1-2), Finbarr Butler (1-1), Sean Walsh (0-2), Eoin Lawton, Matthew Lawton, John Michael O’Callaghan and Philip Flynn.

Division 7 saw a top two West Cork derby between Carbery Rangers’ seconds and St James and it was the Rosscarbery club who came out on top, winning 0-15 to 1-9. Jack O’Regan was the star of the show for Ross with 0-10, including two two-pointers. John O’Brien (0-3), Paul Shanahan and Eoghan Hayes also scored.
