NEWCESTOWN made it back-to-back wins in Division 2 of the county hurling league with a commanding 0-21 to 0-12 victory over Ballymartle.

Daniel Twomey’s side were in control throughout, leading 0-10 to 0-7 at the break before pushing on in the second half. Richard O’Sullivan top scored with 0-9, while Jack Meade and Podge Collins added 0-3 apiece. Eddie Kenneally (0-2), Ciarán O’Donovan, Colm Dinneen, Colm O’Donovan and Seamus O’Sullivan (0-1 each) also contributed.

Bride Rovers are the only other side to maintain a 100 percent record, edging out Na Piarsaigh 0-19 to 1-15. Chris O’Leary struck a late free to earn Valley Rovers a 0-20 apiece draw against Ballincollig – the Innishannon club’s first point of the campaign. Elsewhere, Erin’s Own beat Carrigaline 2-21 to 0-12, while Kanturk and Newtownshandrum shared the spoils in a 2-20 to 3-17 draw.

A Kevin Hannon hat-trick powered Bandon to their first Division 3 win of the season, as they overcame Castlelyons 3-19 to 0-22. Hannon finished with 3-1 from play in an eye-catching display, while Michael Cahalane (0-8) and Mark Sugrue (0-4) were also prominent. Charlie Long and Denis O’Mahony (0-2 each), along with Conor Calnan and Dylan O’Donovan, completed the scoring for the Lilywhites.

Éire Óg sit top of the division following a comprehensive 2-28 to 1-18 victory over Lisgoold. Blarney and Inniscarra have also won their opening two games after wins over Ballinhassig and Fermoy respectively. Courcey Rovers got off the mark with a 1-19 to 0-18 victory against Russell Rovers.

Kilbrittain extended their winning run to 12 games with a 1-23 to 0-21 win over Tracton in Division 5. Luke Griffin netted the All-Ireland junior champions’ goal, while Mark Hickey (0-11), Josh O’Donovan (0-5), Ronan Crowley (0-3), Aaron Holland (0-2) and Conor Hogan (0-1) also chipped in.

Dungourney and Milford joined the Black and Amber in making it two wins from two after victories over Ballygarvan and Youghal. Midleton’s second string beat Glen Rovers’ B side 3-21 to 0-19, while Castlemartyr and Cloyne finished level.

Argideen Rangers are one of two teams with an unbeaten start to Division 6, and the Timoleague club saw off Killavullen 1-21 to 3-12. Philip Flynn grabbed their goal, while Charlie Twomey led the scoring with 0-11. John Michael O’Callaghan (0-2), Cathal O’Donovan, Mattie Lawton, James Crowley, Seán Walsh, Fergal Walsh, Finbarr Butler, Darragh O’Donovan and Seán Murray also got on the scoresheet. Ballygiblin are the other unbeaten side following a 5-20 to 1-13 win over Kinsale.

Diarmuid Ó Mathúnas recorded their first Division 6 win with a 1-16 to 0-14 victory over Erin’s Own. Caolán O’Donovan (0-11), Jamie Lucey (1-2), Kevin O’Donovan, Conor O’Sullivan and Willie Horgan all contributed.

Ballinascarthy missed out on a Division 6 clean sweep for Carbery clubs, going down 1-24 to 2-16 against Sarsfields, while Mayfield overcame Aghada.

Barryroe also lost out in Division 7, beaten 2-17 to 1-12 by Carraig na bhFear. Elsewhere, St Finbarr’s and Ballinora defeated Killeagh and Meelin respectively, while Na Piarsaigh and Douglas drew.

In Division 1, Douglas, Charleville and Midleton have all maintained perfect starts with wins over Carrigtwohill, Glen Rovers and St Finbarr’s. County champions Sarsfields claimed their first win against Killeagh, while Blackrock beat Fr O’Neill’s.
