Clonakilty has a world champ

CLONAKILTY’S Brian Morrison is the new Student Rider World Champion.

The West Cork man (pictured), who has enjoyed major success as both an eventer and a showjumper, won Gold at the AIEC World Finals that were held at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Centre in Florida.

Students from all over the globe competed in this hotly-contested competition involving dressage and show-jumping, and competitors are amongst the best young riders from around the world.

Morrison took the individual gold in the dressage competition and was fourth in the show-jumping final.

The Irish team of Morrison, James Brennan and Peter O’Donnell also took the silver medal in the team event, narrowly beaten by Britain.
