Cill na Martra boxer Christina Desmond is out of the EUBC Women's European Championships having lost a split decision to the Russian number two seed at the quarter final stage in Madrid today.
The newly-qualified Garda was a comfortable winner in her last 16 tie on Tuesday winning all three rounds in a dominant display but her opponent on Wedneday provided a much sterner test.
She'll be disappointed to go out at this stage but it was a cracking contest that could have gone either way.
The Fr Horgan’s club woman was involved in what was arguably the fight of the night at the National Stadium on Irish Elite Finals night in Dublin earlier in the year and she will no doubt bounce back again following her defeat today.
