WATCH: Clonakilty direct provision residents stage a peaceful protest

The protest is being held following the visit Minister of State David Stanton on Monday.

UPDATED at 2.26pm: 

Management at Clonakilty Lodge have agreed to hold a meeting with residents of Clonakilty Lodge to address their growing concerns. Residents of the direct provision centre held discussions earlier today with manager Michael Plichta and assistant manager Marion O'Regan, following their protest earlier this morning.

 

UPDATED at 10.14:

Having spoken to gardai, residents have agreed to meet with the manager and assistant manager in about an hour to discuss their grievances.

THE Clonakilty Lodge direct provision centre residents are staging a peaceful protest in Clonakilty this morning.

On their Facebook page  MASI - Movement of Asylum Seekers in Ireland have said: 'We are in full support of this action. If you are in Cork and surroundings please go show your solidarity to the residents. They had enough of being incarcerated.'

It is believed that they are particularly angry that they did not get to address Minister of State David Stanton to voice their concerns when he visited the centre yesterday.
