PLANS for new public toilets in Ballineen will include a unisex public toilet and a disabled access public toilet and storeroom, according to proposed plans by Cork County Council, writes Kieran O’Mahony.
The village has been without a public toilet since the previous facility, which was built in the 1970s was demolished in 2021 leaving the twin villages of Ballineen and Enniskeane without a public convenience.
Locals had campaigned in recent years to get the toilets reinstated including starting a petition.

The public consultation process for the construction of the new public toilets is currently under way and the council is seeking to construct new facility within the footprint of the previously demolished public toilets at Derrigra, Ballineen.
It is also proposing for a provision of a new paved area and a small landscaped area to the east of the public toilet facilities as well as any ancillary works necessary for the provision of public toilets.
The proposal will connect to the existing connection to the public sewer network.
Submissions or observations in relation to the proposed development, may be made online on Cork County Council’s website or in writing clearly marked: ‘Ballineen Public Toilets’, Part 8 Planning, Municipal District Officer, Cork County Council, Community, Tourism and Rural Development, Hume House, Clonakilty P85PX88 before 4pm Tuesday December 9th.
