UNDER a Town Development Plan for both Bandon and Kinsale, the towns are set to share in a fund of €565,000, over the next five years.

Announcing details of the plan at the most recent meeting of the Bandon Kinsale Municipal Area, district officer Jacqueline Mansfield said the purpose of the fund was to support initiatives that are ‘targeted at assisting with the economic development of the main towns in the Municipal area.’

Setting out the budget for the lifetime of the plan, Ms Mansfield said €113,000 has already been earmarked to be spent in 2015, between the two towns.

While the initiative drew broad support from the elected representatives attending last week’s meeting, Cllr Rachel McCarthy expressed her concern that the villages in the municipal area were being forgotten and Cllr Tim Lombard sought an explanation as to why Carrigaline had been omitted.

Cllr Margaret Murphy O’Mahony, who described the setting-up of the partnership committee as an opportunity to harness the talents of many of the business and community leaders for the greater good of both towns, called for more discussion on the initiative, to ensure it achieved its maximum potential.
