A TEAM from Skibbereen Community School are focusing on this year’s Stem Racing Ireland competition, having made it into the national finals with their plan for this year’s contest.
Einon Gottschall-Jones, Jack Foley, Oisín Moore, and Greg Baburkin are finalising the development of their F1-type car, composed of a 3D-printed material.
In preparation for the competition, they’ve conducted over 100 aerodynamic tests, and reduced the drag already by 33%, says Oisín.

He was a member of last year’s team, and says this year’s development is an improvement on the model they developed last year where, unfortunately, the wheels literally came off during the first round of the final competition, which was held in Kinsale in 2025.
The aim of the contest is for entrants to design, make, and race ‘the fastest F1 car of the future’, driven by compact, compressed air power units.
The location of this year’s final isn’t yet confirmed, but is expected to be held in May.
