Students from Skibbereen Community School attended Cork's Solidarity's 'March For Our Lives' in Cork yesterday.

STUDENTS from Skibbereen Community School joined other Cork students in Cork city yesterday for Cork's Solidarity March with 'March for Our Lives' which grew from the anger of the young survivors of the Parkland, Florida school shootings.

March organiser Saoi O' Connor (15) travelled from Skibbereen with her class mates Amy Zachariah, Greta Onusaittye and Mairin Dineen to march with other students.

'I contacted the survivors in Florida including Cameron Kasky via social media as soon as the marches began to be planned in the USA. He thanked us for reaching out to them and told us he really appreciated our support,' Saoi told The Southern Star.

'We wanted to echo the USA marches in a show of solidarity between young people from across the world. We all believe we can make the world a better place if each of us stands up and is counted.'

The students who gathered for the march were delighted to welcome the President of UCC, Professor Patrick O'Shea who came to stand with them as they held 17 minutes of silence to commemorate the 17 young people killed in Florida.
