chamber-of-commerceTHE Skibbereen & District Chamber of Commerce is gearing up for a busy AGM next week, as it prepares for a full programme of 2015 activities.

The board is extending an open invitation to the public to join them on Wednesday February 18th at the West Cork Hotel in the town.

Last year saw the Chamber involved in a number of successful programmes, including securing funding and working with stakeholders to ensure CCTV was installed in the town.

It also worked, in partnership with Fáilte Ireland, to retain and develop the town’s tourist office, enabling it to open 7 days a week during the busy summer season.

The Chamber also supported community projects like the St Patrick’s Day Parade, Shiny Happy Skibbereen, and the Christmas parade.

It also developed the 60+ Discount Card Scheme (to encourage business during quieter periods) and liaised with the newly elected district councillors.

It promoted the town for Christmas shopping and gave its support to events like the Taste of West Cork festival, the SCAR Adventure Race, the Down & Dirty Challenge, and the Arts Festival.

Mary O’Donovan is the Chamber’s business administrator.

‘All of these events attract visitors to the area, who are encouraged to stay and are a certain boost to the local economy,’ she said this week.

Mary added that networking events for Chamber members are a key part of its schedule.

‘These have included coffee mornings, an end of season dinner at Liss Ard Estate, as well as a Business Breakfast Briefing at the West Cork Hotel.’

The agm takes place on February 18th at the West Cork Hotel at 7.30pm.
