TEN schools in West Cork are participating in The Future Is Food, an initiative that aims to engage Transition Year students with Ireland’s artisan food industry.

It will see students broaden their knowledge and understanding of local artisan food through practical insight and real-life experience.

The schools are Ballincollig Community School; Bandon Grammar School; Coláiste Muire, Crosshaven; Coláiste na Toirbhirte, Bandon; Coláiste Pobail Bheanntrai, Bantry; Kinsale Community School; Scoil Phobail Bheara, Castletownbere; St Brogan’s College, Kilbrogan, Bandon; St Mary’s Secondary School, Macroom and St Peter’s Community School, Passage West.

The schools involved will partner a local chef, food champion or artisan producer who will help students to develop their own unique food product or help them with an existing product.
