A POP-UP charity shop in Kilbrittain has raised €2,000 for Cancer Connect.

Local garda, John McCarthy, and Eileen Hayes came up with the idea of opening the charity shop after being given the contents of a house by a person selling a property in the area.

John said: ‘Eileen and I put our heads together and decided to open the shop for the week of the Kilbrittain Festival, and we are pleased to say it was very well supported. Not only did we have the house contents to sell, but lots of other people donated items for us to sell as well.’

‘We’d like to thank Hickey’s Food Store in Kilbrittain for allowing us use a unit they had free of charge.

‘And we’d like to thank Eugene Fallon of Kilbrittain Tidy Towns for his assistance too,’ he added.

John said: ‘We were pleased to donate the money to Cancer Connect because it is an invaluable service offering a free and flexible transport service to Cork Hospitals for people receiving cancer treatments.’

Cancer Connect is a community-led service that is totally dependent on its many voluntary drivers.
