The unit was based at the Old Head and there was a photo taken back then which had nine people in it including (from left) John Cahalane, Jimmy Nyhan, Liam Coughlan, Valerie Robinson, Martin Collins, Eddie Butler, PJ Hunt, Billy Nyhan and Michael Murray. Another photo was taken again 30 years later in the same spot. Unfortunately, Jimmy Nyhan is no longer with the unit, but he was remembered on the day as being a valuable member of the team.

Pupils from sixth class in Scoil an Chroí Ró Naofa, Castletownbere have been learning some local history about the life of Dr Aidan MacCarthy. His daughters Niki and Adrienne were able to visit the school with some artefacts to show the pupils, most notably Samurai sword which was gifted to him at the end of the war by a Japanese officer.

Last Saturday in Foleys Lounge, Ballineen the presentations took place for the Mike O’Shea Truck and Vintage Car Run held on Sunday September 14th at Hennessy Transport Ltd grounds in Ballineen. This event was again a great success and the amount raised came to a total of €17,000 with the O’Shea Family and the team at Hennessy Transport presenting cheques to West Cork Rapid Response, Bantry Hospice Project and Maeve O’Mahony.Each charity were very grateful for the donations they received.
A lot of hard work goes on in organising these events and it is a credit to all involved. Well done to everyone.

Pupils at Dreeny National School have been busy with writing, art, music, baking, and lots of reading. Sixth class pupils were excited as they got their new hoodies and got to meetMr O’Mahony (principal of SCS) as the pupils prepare for the SCS enrolment evening. The school also loved Maths Week and enjoyed the puzzles and trails around the school. For Halloween pupils painted pumpkins, had a library quiz, and dressed up for the party. After midterm the school is going to visit the Cork Pops Orchestra at City Hall.
