BANDON Show is the first horse and cattle show of the season in Cork, taking place on Sunday, May 22nd next.

This year, they have created a new class in the Beef Section called the Bandon Co-Op Cork County Super Commercial Young Heifer. It carries substantial prize money.

In general, these ‘super’ classes attract great interest from exhibitors and commercial breeders across the country at the few shows in Ireland that they are held in. It is for that reason that Bandon Show Cattle Committee decided this year to add this new class in the show.

However, they said, it would not have been possible to hold this class without the generous sponsorship from Bandon Co-Op under the stewardship of Mr. Gerard Brickley. Bandon Co-Op are sponsoring the prize money, which is, as follows: 1st prize €500, 2nd prize €350, 3rd prize €150 and 4th prize €50.

‘These prizes are highly attractive to show exhibitors and will be definite to bring exhibitors and breeders out from all over the country,’ according to cattle secretary Myra Dinneen. ‘Already, keen interest is being expressed in the class. We are expecting exhibitors from Cork County, Limerick, Clare, the Midlands and from other counties.

Bandon Co-Op has a very long association with Bandon Show. It has sponsored classes in the Dairy Section for years and this year, for the first time, is supporting the Beef Section in an effort to help the show broaden its horizons.

Meanwhile, AIB continues its sponsorship of the Dairy Section of Bandon Show and the prize schedule was sent out last week to all of the exhibitors. The closing date for entries is Wednesday, May 11th, and they should be submitted to The Secretary, Bandon Show, c/o O’Brien’s Saddlery, 10 South Main Street, Bandon.
