BANTRY Bay Port Company has confirmed that it will be opening a reclaimed amenity site in the town.

BANTRY Bay Port Company has confirmed that it will be opening a reclaimed amenity site in the town (pictured), writes Jackie Keogh. Cllr Danny Collins (Ind) raised the issue at a meeting of the Western Committee saying locals and the business community were annoyed that three years after it was developed it was still closed. But the following day, Cllr Collins said he had received good news from the Bantry Bay Port Company that the barriers were to come down and it was to be made accessible by the public. Cllr Collins said he understood that the port company wished to ‘hand over’ the spacious green amenity site that overlooks the harbour, but there are a few issues that need to be addressed before Cork County Council takes it in charge. Cllr Collins thanked the port company ‘for taking the initiative and opening this beautiful amenity area.’ He said: ‘It will add to our spectacular walk in the Beicin and make for a lovely place to relax and enjoy the views.’
