Clonakilty District Court heard that Mr Vaughan’s grey Audi was involved in a collision with a van. Gardaí at the scene asked to see the defendant’s driving licence and certificate of insurance, which he did not have in his possession to show at the scene.

Mr Vaughan was asked to produce the licence and insurance papers within ten days of the accident at Carrigtwohill Garda Station, which he failed to do.

Mr Vaughan had one previous conviction under the Litter Act, for which he was given a €50 fine in 2016.

Defence solicitor Conrad Murphy said that his client had had a learner permit at the time of the offence. Mr Murphy said that another person with a full driving licence had been in the car with Mr Vaughan at the time of the accident.

Judge John King issued a €200 fine for driving without a licence, taking the two charges of failure to produce a licence into consideration.
