SIR – While on a visit home last weekend, I took a drive to Lough Hyne, as I usually do when I am in the locality. This area of great natural beauty is a joy both to the local and visitor, and the walks and scenery are outstanding.

It was therefore with much amazement that I observed a ‘mobile sauna’ being operated in the car parking area of the lough. This mobile sauna was festooned with buntings and otherwise gaily decorated.

It appears as if it is operating on a profit making basis as there were a number of people using it after swimming in the Lough. I am not aware if there are by-laws in place to prevent anyone from just setting up shop in this area as there did not appear to be any signs indicating same.

I would trust that the local councillors and relevant authorities have been made aware of this ‘mobile sauna’ and that steps will be taken to have it moved on as soon as possible. It is totally out of place with the ambience of the lough and is taking from the natural beauty of same.

Yours sincerely,

Thomas Walsh,
