A RENOVATION and extension project at Kealkil National School will be officially opened on Tuesday.

The pupils of the school are eagerly looking forward to the March 15th celebrations and the grand opening, which will coincide with the school’s commemoration of the 1916 Easter Rising. There is an open invitation to people to come and join in the proceedings, which will start at 11am.

Years ago, the board of management of the school – under the direction of the chairperson, William Nyhan, and school principal, Darragh Carey – recognised the need for improved facilities for the pupils of the school.

So they, more than anyone, are proud of the fact that in addition to the extensive renovations to the old structure of the school that a state of the art three classroom extension has been developed.

The extension was designed and overseen by architects Daly Barry & Associates, Bantry, and the works were carried out by CHOM Construction, Glengarriff.

The works were completed last August with the additional development of a wonderful playground extension.

School principal Darragh Carey told The Southern Star: ‘The work would not have been possible without the grant aid provided by the Department of Education and finances supplied by the Board of Management.

He said: ‘We are very grateful to them for providing us with this wonderfully restored and extended educational facility.’
