Nominees for the West Cork Garda Youth Awards 2017 were honoured at a special function held in the Munster Arms Hotel in Bandon.

Nominees for the West Cork Garda Youth Awards 2017 were honoured at a special function held in the Munster Arms Hotel in Bandon.

All these nominees – which included groups and individuals – were from the Bandon District and had all been nominated for the West Cork Garda Youth Awards 2017.

‘While they were not chosen as award winners, both An Garda Siochána and SuperValu felt that it was very important to highlight their nominations and to recognise the excellent work that is being carried out by those nominated,’ said Gda Damian White, community garda in Bandon, and PRO for the West Cork Garda Youth Awards.

‘It is not about the winning, but about applauding the contribution made to their community that is important.’

Supt Brendan Fogarty of Bandon Garda Station presented the Certificates of Nomination to the nominees, along with Emma Crowley of Caulfield’s SuperValu, on behalf of awards sponsor SuperValu. Also present on the night was Gda James O’Mahony, who founded the awards in 1995 which, at the time, were the first of their kind in the country.

‘The recipients were accompanied by their parents and family members, and those who were unable to attend will have their Certificate of Nomination delivered to them,’ Gda White explained.

He thanked all those present for their efforts and their attendance, and reflected that these certificates will be welcome additions to any CV.

Caulfield’s SuperValu also kindly supplied light refreshments for those present on the night.
