SEPTEMBER 1st is the Muslim celebration of Eid al-Adha, and to mark the event last Friday, there was a service of prayer held at Bandon Town Hall.

Approximately 100 Muslims from across West Cork attended the event with  gardaí Lisa O’Sullivan and Damian White, both from Bandon Garda Station, also in attendance.

Garda White was invited to address the gathering, and spoke about how important it was for An Garda Síochána to work with all people to prevent issues or problems in each community.

He outlined that we have far more in common than that which separates us, and that it was lovely to have the opportunity to build relationships, and trust, with the Muslim community.

The gardaí also provided a Garda Information Stand, with information on crime prevention, personal safety and home safety.

The event concluded with refreshments, and a chance for the gardaí to chat and mingle with community members. Both gardaí would like to express their thanks for the kind invitation to attend the celebration, and they look forward to the next gathering.
