The overall West Cork Hero award winner for 2017 will be selected from the 12 monthly winners chosen during the past year.

The final four West Cork Hero winners of 2017 were presented with their monthly awards at a special lunch in the Celtic Ross Hotel in Rosscarbery this afternoon. These community awards are run by The Southern Star in conjunction with the hotel.

The four people presented with West Cork Hero awards were Sharon Jermyn  (September) of Schull for her selfless work as a carer; Charles Henderson (October), Kinsale, for four decades of community work, especially for Tidy Towns; Linda Shannon (November), chairperson of Skibbereen Geriatric Society, for her work with the elderly and Liam F O’Regan (December), also from Skibbereen, for a lifetime of voluntary community work, most notably with the Civil Defence.

Today’s presentations were attended by adjudicators, Lady Patsy Puttnam and The Southern Star assistant editor Niall O’Driscoll, while the third one, Neil Grant, general manager of the Celtic Ross Hotel, who was unavoidably absent, was represented by Marie Dooley.

The overall West Cork Hero award winner for 2017 will be selected from the 12 monthly winners chosen during the past year and will be announced at a gala invitation-only luncheon in the Celtic Ross Hotel on Friday, February 23rd, 2018 by special guest Brother Kevin Crowley, a native of Enniskeane, who runs the Capuchin Day Centre for Homeless People in Dublin.
