OCTOBER was a busy month of learning, creativity, and fun at Dromore NS.

On October 10th, pupils and staff marked World Mental Health Awareness Day with a rainbow dress-up event, raising €166 for Pieta House.

For Maths Week, pupils took part in the Maths Eyes photo competition and estimation challenges to guess the number of sweets in a jar, the height of a tree, and the weight of various pumpkins. All classes enjoyed maths trails and games.

All pupils participated in the Food Dudes programme, tasting a variety of fruits and vegetables. Each classroom took part in the Active Flag Skip Around the World challenge.

The junior room continued to enjoy their weekly Maths Stations, exploring 2D shapes, patterns, dice and matching games, and Lego construction. Pupils also focused on developing throwing skills in PE using beanbags and balls. Pupils in second, third, and fourth class learned about Irish explorer Tom Crean and improvised drama scenes based on his Antarctic adventures.

On October 22nd, the school debating team of Aoife Barrett, Ellen Hurley, Grace O’Sullivan, Moira Barry, and Molly McGrath won their first debate against Kilgarriffe NS and progressed to the next round.

Fifth and sixth class pupils began French lessons through the Say Yes to Languages initiative. The month concluded with a Halloween parade, showcasing pupils’ creative costumes before the midterm break.
