DRINAGH Eurospar’s head butcher was a cut above the rest at a recent prestigious industry competition. 

Ger O’Callaghan earned major recognition in the Butchery Excellence All Ireland Sausage & Pudding Competition which took place in Aughnacloy, Co Tyrone. 

There were 170 entries in total from throughout the country with judges noting that the quality and standard of the entries this year was exceptional. 

Ger, who had never entered a competition like this before, put forward a range of products and was honoured with certificates in a number of categories.

‘I heard about it from talking to a few lads and said I’d give it a shot,’ said Ger who won a gold certificate for his smoked bacon and turkey sausage and a silver certificate for his chicken sausage in the speciality category. 

He won a silver certificate for his chicken burger and for his turkey and smoked bacon burger in the Butcher’s Choice category. 

‘It is a great boost of confidence and a great nod of encouragement to be even shortlisted with some of the entrants,’ said Ger travelled to Tyrone to attend the awards ceremony last week. 

Congratulations are extended to Ger and the team of William and Michael in Drinagh Eurospar, Skibbereen.
