GRIT, gravel and crater-deep potholes has prompted a resident of Chapel Court at Gortnaclohy in Skibbereen to highlight the dangerous condition of the road surface.
A resident who says he has lost patience with the damage that is being done to his car contacted The Southern Star and sent images of deep potholes at the entrance to the state, as well as the rough, unfinished surface of the road within the estate itself.
The resident, who asked for his name to be withheld, said he had contacted the local authority but they said the issue needed to be taken up with the developer of the estate.

The online reply from the local authority stated: ‘Chapel Estate is not taken in charge by Cork County Council therefore you need to contact the developer Alchemist Developments Limited.’
The resident said he tried unsuccessfully to contact the developer and in frustration asked the media to highlight the condition of the road.
‘My question is who is responsible for the damage being caused to the cars that go in and out many times a day and more importantly the health and safety of anyone walking in that area at night time?’
He pointed out that some infrastructural works – he didn’t know if it was water or sewage works – were carried out early in the year but the road surface was not properly reinstated.
‘We are waiting all this time for the roadway at the entrance to the estate and the road in front of our houses to be repaired,’ added the man who summarised the situation saying: ‘My car is suffering and it is dangerous at night time.’
Cork County Council said: ‘Chapel Court is a private development not in charge of the local authority, therefore Cork County Council has no role in maintaining the roads within the estate. Cork County Council maintains the local road which passes by the estate.’
