WILD Atlantic Colouring Book has won three major awards at the regional final of the Get Up And Go Enterprise Competition, and 11 celebrities have endorsed it by colouring in a page for a charity auction.

The creators of the colouring book are Alice Buckley Healy and Marie Keating, who are in transition year in Mount Saint Michael Secondary School in Rosscarbery.

They devised the book with the help of Star Creative, a design, printing and digital service provided by The Southern Star. And they were full of praise for Kevin Corcoran of Star Creative, who helped them with their book, and also learning the ropes of their business.

Alice and Marie won first place in marketing in the Get Up and Go Enterprise Competition; first place in finance and accounts, and second place in the innovation category at the regional final, which was held at the Vienna Woods Hotel in Cork recently.

They are now through to the national final, which will be held in Naas in May, and they are busy at present working on sales and promotion.

Alice Buckley Healy confirmed: ‘Sales are strong even though the tourist season hasn’t really commenced yet.’

The book is on sale in stores from Kinsale to the Mizen Peninsula, as well as The Southern Star’s own online store, for €5.

It can also be ordered by emailing: [email protected] or by placing an order through Facebook.

As part of their marketing strategy, Alice and Marie wrote to a number of celebrities and so far 11 of them have coloured a page, signed it, and returned it to the girls, who plan to sell them to raise further donations for the Dyspraxia Association of Ireland.

The celebrities who happily obliged include Joe Duffy, John Creedon and Mary Kennedy from RTÉ; Simon Coveney, TD, the Minster of Housing, Planning and Local Government; Leo Varadkar, TD, the Minister for Social Protection; Katherine Zappone, TD, the Minister for Children and Youth Affairs; Lord David Puttnam, Skibbereen resident and film producer; Colm the Gooch Cooper, of Kerry Football fame – a page that has just increased in value; Louise O Neill, author; Peter Kelly, otherwise known as ‘Franc’; and Francis Brennan of The Park Hotel and At Your Service.
