Prominent West Cork gallery, the Catherine Hammond Gallery in Skibbereen, has closed.

PROMINENT West Cork gallery, the Catherine Hammond Gallery in Skibbereen, has closed.

Catherine, who has lived in West Cork for more than 15 years, told The Southern Star how much she enjoyed being in Skibbereen for the last two years. However, she said, the art business is never an easy business, ‘so after 14 years behind the desk it is time for me to do work differently’.

‘I am not going away: I am going to be working independently, on a freelance basis, and I expect to do a number of shows, fairs, and projects every year, including an exhibition for the Skibbereen Arts Festival in July 2018.’

Over the last 14 years – both in Glengarriff and Skibbereen – the Catherine Hammond Gallery exhibited some of Ireland’s best painters and sculptors. During that time, Catherine has shown work by over 110 artists, many of whom are from West Cork. Even today, her website –hammondgallery.com – continues to showcase talented artists.
