A report on Rosscarbery being named Ireland’s Tidiest Village last week referred to a ‘touch up’ being required for Castle Salem, according to the judges’ report.
We are happy to clarify that this was not what was stated in the report. The judges had no criticism of any of the buildings, and only some minimal guidance on signage. In the report they wrote: ‘With the exception of the finger sign for Castle Salem needing a touch up, just about no tidiness issues were encountered.’
The sign referred to is located on the N71 at Newtown, not at Castle Salem itself.

The judges made the statement when referring to the lack of litter encountered in a visit to the village, and the group’s ‘highly commended prize’ from Muintir na Tire.
‘Well done for encouraging young people to take direct action against litter. Speaking of litter, you’ll be pleased to hear that none was found during our visit. An excellent achievement – well done all…Fantastic work’.
