BEARA man Cllr Patrick Gerard Murphy (FF) has been elected Cork county mayor, and will serve for the next year.
BEARA man Cllr Patrick Gerard Murphy (FF) has been elected Cork county mayor, and will serve for the next year.
Patrick Gerard Murphy was born in the Beara peninsula and now resides in Ballylickey near Bantry.
With a degree in production engineering from the University of Limerick and a graduate diploma in entrepreneurship,
Cllr Murphy spent time with the Ford Motor Company in Wales before deciding to enter the disability sector.
He has worked with the Centre for Independent Living in Limerick and now works with the National Learning Network in Bantry West Cork, who deliver certified training programmes for people with disabilities. Mayor Murphy was nominated by Cllr Seamus McGrath, seconded by Cllr Kevin Murphy and was unopposed.
He succeeds Dunmanway's Cllr Declan Hurley, who held the post for the last year.
