AN announcement on the Bandon Flood Relief Scheme is likely to be made later today, the Southern Star has learned.

It is believed that Acting Minister Simon Harris and Acting Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform Brendan Howlin have come to an agreement on the commencement of the scheme.

The scheme, which would see an alleviation in flooding areas around the town, and a massive reduction in threats to the town's businesses during heavy winter flooding, is long-awaited.

Announcements on the plans were made prior to the recent election, with Minister Harris himself visiting the town, but no commencement date has, as yet, been published.
