A renowned sculptor is giving away his most prized pieces - for free.

A RENOWNED sculptor is giving away his most prized pieces – for free.

Klaus Steinbrenner (90), who lives in Kilcrohane with his wife Karin (74), is moving to Philadelphia and says he cannot take the large works of art with him.

Speaking to The Southern Star, Karin said that while the couple are very sad to have to leave their home, they would be happy to know the works of art are going to good homes.

As some of the sculptures are quite large, Karin says they may be more suited to bank or hospital foyers and may need specialist equipment to move them.

One of the pieces has already been promised to a German museum and others have gone to neighbours and friends.

The Steinbreeners have lived in the home which they built in Dooneen, Kilcrohane for 30 years, but Karin says that ‘advancing age’ now means they need to move to a city. ‘Our only son and his family will be near us in Philadelphia, but there will be a few tears shed when we leave here,’ she said.

Their beautiful house in Kilcrohane was quickly sold, and the new owners take possession in early August. In the meantime, up to 30 original sculptures are looking for new locations.

They can be viewed online at http://homepage.eircom.net/~ksteinbr/index.htm and Karin or Klaus can be contacted at 027 67287
