THE often forgotten ‘ordinary’ women who gave so much to our society are celebrated in Alice Taylor’s new book.
Like many of the women featured in her new book, The Women, the Innishannon-based author is strong and resourceful and the backbone of her community.
During her childhood, women’s work was twofold: the farm and the home and when the long day’s work was over they turned to craftwork – knitting, sewing, darning and mending in the soft lamplight.
They, too, were the ones who came to offer solace when trouble struck. They were the ones who laid out the dead and provided a listening ear when heartbreak dampened the spirit. They were the ones who kept everything afloat.
A large crowd turned out to congratulate the author whose book is available now.
