A CARRIGALINE aid worker living in Guatemala has commended the generosity of the people of Cork.

Aisling Walsh, who works for the development agency Trocaire, has sent her thanks home to people in Co Cork on St Patrick’s Day for their continued generosity towards the world’s poorest people and communities.

‘St Patrick’s Day is a time to celebrate all that is good about being Irish. Working here in Guatemala with Trocaire, I am constantly reminded of the deep tradition that Ireland has for reaching out to the poorest in the world,’ she said.

She said it was important to recognise that Irish people, through their generosity are working hand in hand with people from poor communities in Guatemala, which are doing all they can themselves to improve their own lives.

The 2015 Lenten Campaign is about the devastating effects climate change is having on rural communities. Trocaire’s Lenten Campaign runs until Easter Sunday and Trocaire boxes are available from parishes and through trocaire.org or by phoning 1850 408 408.
