THE wife of an Ahiohill man, who has a form of skin cancer, has launched an appeal to help her fund treatment  for him in the US.

Colin Healy suffers from basal cell carcinoma and his wife Elle is appealing to the people of West Cork to help them fund a medical trip that will help Colin avail of specialised medical treatment.

Elle Healy has set up a Go Fund Me page in order to fundraise for the treatment, and she says it’s out of desperation that both she and her husband Colin, a lab technician, have resorted to this measure.

‘We don’t do this kind of thing normally and while we are embarrassed to do such it, I feel it’s better to be alive than to sit and do nothing,’ Elle told The Southern Star.

‘Colin has these cancer tumours on his face, neck, hands and back and it hurts him.

‘His white cell count is slightly elevated and he is tired and has not been eating like he usually does. He has lost over two stone in weight,’ she explained.

While Colin has undergone treatment here in Ireland, Elle feels that his cause is more urgent than first realised, after contacting a clinic over in America.

‘Things just don’t move fast enough here, and I sent Colin’s pictures and paperwork to a clinic in the US, where I attended when I had cancer treatment myself. They called me soon after and said that treatment on Colin needs to be done now rather than later. The doctors have said that they need to find out as soon as possible if these moles have gone into his body.’

Elle is hoping that they can travel at the end of this month to avail of the treatment, but they need €100,000 to cover the cost of treatment, accommodation, prescriptions and travel.

Elle’s Go Fund Me page will go live on Friday January 8th and can be found under ‘Colin Healy Medical Fund’.
