AN architecture student from Kinsale has been honoured for her housing plan for the elderly.

Cork County Council, in co-operation with the Cork Age Friendly Alliance, ran a Student Design Competition where second year students from the Cork Centre for Architectural Education (UCC) carried out a design project as part of their work programme.

The students were asked to design an age-friendly housing scheme specifically with the needs of older adults in mind.

Architects from Cork County Council's Housing Directorate were invited to participate in critiquing assessments and selected Kinsale's Meegan Buckley for a prize. She  won a travel bursary of €500 as the second winner. It is planned that the competition will be repeated again next year.
