MASSACHUSETTS musician Aoife O’Donovan is celebrating after winning not one but two Grammy Awards over the weekend as part of acclaimed folk trio I’m With Her.
Aoife, the daughter of the late Brian O’Donovan from Clonakilty, picked up the awards for Best Folk Album and for Best American Roots Song alongside her bandmates Sara Watkins and Sarah Jarosz.
Their 2025 release Wide and Clear and Blue secured them the gong for Best Folk Album, picking up the American Roots award with the single Ancient Light from that album.

Aoife’s late dad Brian, who passed away in October 2023, was born on Ashe Street in Clonakilty and was a respected broadcaster in Boston who championed Irish music on his GBH radio show ‘A Celtic Sojourn’ for more than 35 years.
Speaking to The Southern Star following their double award win, Aoife said they were thrilled.
‘It’s never expected, but such an incredible feeling to win and to share it with my two bandmates who are also dear friends,’ said Aoife.
‘There’s so much about lineage and childhood and songs gone by in this album. So many of my formative musical memories are in Ireland surrounded by my extended family, who have been screaming their support via WhatsApp since Sunday.’
This is the band’s third Grammy win, having won Best American Roots Song for their song Call My Name in 2020.
Aoife is also no stranger to Clonakilty, having spent many summers on holiday there. Last summer she performed an intimate gig in De Barra’s, and also played at the Skibbereen Arts Festival in 2024.
Aoife, who was also a founding member of progressive folk band Crooked Still, has also been nominated for her solo work including Grammy nominations in 2024 for her album All My Friends, and again in 2022 for her album Age of Apathy.
