West Cork's own Aidan O’Callaghan said he’s having a pinch-me moment with Coronation Street’s 65th anniversary episode, screening on ITV on Monday (December 8th).
The Innishannon actor told The Southern Star: ‘Being part of the Coronation Street 65th anniversary episode is very, very cool and exciting.
I remember watching this show growing up, so it’s a very pinch-me moment.

I’ll be back home in Cork watching all the drama unfold with the family!’
Ahead of his Coronation Street debut on Monday as a character called Alan, Aidan built up the hype on social media: ‘The calm before the storm… Corrie’s 65th anniversary next week is about to go OFF #Corrie65’. The 36-year old actor posted a photo with Pauline McLynn, who played Mrs Doyle in hit comedy Father Ted.
The Corrie anniversary special will see tensions flare up in Weatherfield, with a flashback to Maggie Driscoll’s 65th birthday party that unpacks Ben Driscoll’s childhood traumas and family secrets.
With his appearance in Coronation Street, Aidan will become the first Irish actor to star in all three of the UK’s major soaps.
He played matchmaker Mike in Emmerdale in 2018 and recently featured as EastEnders villain Lewis Butler.
Aidan grew up in West Cork and attended Hamilton High School in Bandon, later graduating from Trinity College Dublin with a degree in pharmacology.
He gained bar experience at his parents’ pub in Tower, which led to his EastEnders role as a barman.
Coronation Street is the world’s longest-running soap since 1960, attracting around six million viewers per episode.
