Bantry man dies in Cliffs of Moher parachuting incident

Malcolm Rowley from Bantry was an extreme sports enthusiast

THE man who died in a parachute jump near the Cliffs of Moher in Co Clare yesterday was from Bantry.

Malcolm Rowley, 45, was an extreme sports enthusiast and was with two others when he jumped from the famous Clare cliffs yesterday morning.

It is believed that his parachute may have got snagged on the cliffs and did not open in time.

A colleague, who had jumped minutes earlier, attended him until the Doolin Coast Guard reached the scene. They were assisted by members of the ambulance service.

The incident was in the vicinty of the Aill Na Searrach headland, on the Doolin side of the cliffs.

Last night several friends of Malcolm’s from Bantry paid tribute to the popular parachuting enthusiast on social media.

Gardaí in Ennistymon are investigating the incident which occurred at approximately 7am on Saturday morning. Gardaí confirmed that Mr Rowley was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was removed to Galway University Hospital.
