THE mind boggles as to what the legacy of Donald Trump’s presidency of the United States of America will be. However, like him or loathe him, the man is now the democratically-elected choice of the US voters and this has to be respected and he must be given a chance to show what he can do.

He will be under greater scrutiny than previous incumbents because this is the first political office of any type that the billionaire businessman has ever held and it is not helpful that he has already reverted to siege mentality mode with the media. Whether he likes it or not, Donald Trump has to be prepared to be held accountable for his actions as president and he needs to become more statesmanlike in all his dealings now that he is leading the largest democracy in the free world.

President Trump’s vision is to ‘make America great again’ and good luck to him with that. A lot of what he promised voters was populist in nature and, if he fails to deliver on these for the people who put their trust in him to shake up the political establishment and get things done for them – especially in areas hit by manufacturing job losses due to globalisation – that will be the rock his political career will perish on.
