THE people of Skibbereen have paid their final respects to a beautiful little girl, Eva Aniulyte, who died on Friday, August 5th, just nine days before her fourth birthday.

In November 2015, Eva was diagnosed with an incurable brain tumour and the community in the greater Skibbereen area did what it could to reach out to her and her parents, Luiza and Mantas Aniuliai, who are now grieving the loss of little Eva.

A friend of the family said that nothing can take away the pain of their loss, but the family knows that they have the support of their friends and the community behind them in the weeks, months and years to come.

Over the last few months, as Eva braved treatments in Dublin and Germany with a stoicism that was nothing short of inspirational, the community held fundraisers as their way of supporting her treatment and allowing the family the space to ‘make memories.’

Eva had a tumour called Intrinsic Pontine Giloma or DIPG, which is incurable, but in the last nine months she lived her life fully as can be seen in the many photographs of Eva on Facebook.  The photographs show her in a variety of poses, smiling for the camera, wearing the pretty dresses she loved so much, cuddling her toys, and in the arms of her family.

This is how she will always be remembered. People honoured Eva by wearing pink, her favourite colour, to her funeral service, and releasing pink and white balloons.
