A LADY whose beloved cat was lost while on holiday in West Cork last year has issued a ‘thank you’ to local people for their continuing efforts to help her find Kadu.

Eimear Kennedy, who now lives in the UK, was holidaying in the Castlefreke/Rathbarry area last June with Kadu, who has been spayed and microchipped.

She believes that Kadu got out through a window in the holiday home in Castlefreke  and she never came back before Eimear had to return to the UK.

Since then, she has paid a number of visits back to West Cork, hoping to find the tabby female, and while she has been away, local people have mounted a major publicity and postering campaign to try and find the lost feline.

Last week Eimear returned once more, to search for Kadu. She says she has been distraught ever since Kadu went missing. ‘I came back to desperately try and find her as she means so much to me. She is a special cat that I love with all my heart.’

It was a particularly difficult year for Eimear as both her parents passed away unexpectedly and within an hour of returning from her mother’s funeral,  Eimear’s 18-year-old cat died in her arms. ‘I lost three of them so close together, but with Kadu there is still some hope,’ she told The Southern Star

‘I know she is alive somewhere around Castlefreke or Rathbarry. The vets and animal behaviourists all say that cats stay around the place they know and this was her second time staying at that holiday house,’ explained Eimear. ‘Kadu is very shy of strangers and dogs, so she may well be hiding from them and have had no human contact at all. She may be just surviving as she is a brilliant hunter and will eat her prey.

‘She is a very pretty cat and is very vocal with me. She loves her cuddles so much – I also call her ‘Cuddles’ sometimes.’

Eimear says Kadu’s sister cat is also very upset back at home, as they were the best of friends.

‘It only takes one person to find her and I feel thousands must know about her now. Hope is a great thing, and my hope never dies. I would like to thank the very kind people in Castlefreke, Rathbarry and Ardfield. Without them I would be totally lost. Their kindness and their help has been overwhelming.’

Eimear is afraid that with different people coming and going to the house, and maybe dogs too, Kadu might not feel it’s safe for her to stay in the area for long periods of time.
