BEARA United closed the gap to one point on Bay Rovers at the top of the Championship table after a barn-burner of a 7-3 win over Aultagh Celtic.

A 6-0 half-time lead put Beara in full control, with Richard Murphy hitting a brace and Jonathan Rosales Harrington, James Harrington, Declan Dunne and Daniel Hanley all scoring in a blistering first-half display.

Evan McGuire pulled one back for Celtic before Lee Kelly made it 7-1. Further goals from McGuire and James Iddon made the final scoreline more respectable. This win sees Beara move to within one point of Bay Rovers, but Beara also have two games in hand.

Alan Ward struck a late goal as Clonakilty Soccer booked their place in the Parkway Hotel/Maybury Coaches Cup semi-finals with a 2-1 quarter-final victory over Skibbereen Celtic.

Clon captain Rueben Henry put his side ahead at half-time, but Jamie O’Driscoll equalised in the 65th minute for the Championship outfit. Ward then stepped up with an 85th-minute winner to send Clon through and leave Celtic deflated after a gallant effort.

The other quarter-final was a thriller as Bunratty United saw off Castlelack 6-2. United built a 3-1 lead at the break through goals from Conor Brosnan and a double from Eoin O’Brien, while Adam Jones kept Castlelack in touch. Brosnan completed his hat-trick with strikes on 60 and 75 minutes. Billy Curtin pulled another back to make it 5-2, but Dan Bucur rounded off the win late on.

Dunmanway Town are also through to the semi-finals, while Drinagh Rangers v Togher Celtic is still to be played.

Laura Brew gave Bandon the lead after 14 minutes, but quick-fire replies from Ellen Healy and Clare McSweeney had Dunmanway 2-1 up inside 18 minutes. It remained tight entering the last ten minutes, before late strikes from Ruth Collins, Abbie McCarthy (2) and Hollie Lyons put the result beyond doubt.

Lyre Rovers moved up to third with a 3-0 win over Aultagh Celtic. An Erica Jennings first-half goal set them on their way, before second-half efforts from Mairead Connolly and Meadhbh Coomey sealed the points.

Mizen were another side to hit six as Sullane fell to a 6-0 defeat. The performance of the weekend came from Lucy Hurley, who netted five – three in the first half and two after the break. A late Niamh Duggan own goal completed the scoring.
