DUNMANWAY Town, Clonakilty AFC, Castlelack and Lyre Rovers were amongst the victorious SuperValu West Cork Schoolboys and Schoolgirls League teams in last weekend’s SFAI National Cup and Trophy ties.

WCSSL clubs are up against Cork Schoolboys League opposition in an attempt to navigate the county section and qualify for the national stages taking place in the New Year.

West Cork clubs found the going tough in the U12 age-grade with Castlelack exiting the U12 National Cup following a 3-1 defeat away to Rockmount last weekend. Charlie Linehan was the visitors’ lone scorer. Riverside Athletic departed the same competition following a 5-0 loss to Leeside.

There was also disappointment in the SFAI U12 National Schoolboys Trophy where Clonakilty Wanderers and Lyre Rovers both came up short despite heroic efforts.

Fionán Crowley was Lyre’s lone scorer in a 5-1 loss at Springfield Ramblers. Adam Kingston netted Clon’s only goal in a 3-1 defeat at home to Bandon.

This season’s SFAI U13 Schoolboys National Trophy saw three WCSSL club’s odysseys come to an end last weekend.

Ardfield put up a superb effort before going down 1-0 away to Leeds AFC. Riverside Athletic were unlucky to lose 2-0 at home to Fermoy. Cian O’Shea’s goal wasn’t enough to keep Castlelack in the competition after a 2-1 defeat to Carrigtwohill in Brinny.

There was better news in the U14 Schoolboys National Cup where Dunmanway Town came out on the right side of a five-goal thriller.

Travelling to Fermoy, Dunmanway kept their National Cup hopes alive courtesy of a 3-2 victory. Goals from Tristan O’Neill Hayes, Jai Hurley and Sam Kingston earned Town a memorable win.

Clonakilty AFC are also through to the next round in the U14 National Cup following a brilliant 2-1 win at home to Wilton United. Charlie Hennessy and Danny Forristall found the net to secure Clon’s victory.

In the same competition, Riverside Athletic were unfortunate to lose a high-scoring tie to Mayfield United. Eanna O’Sullivan, Darragh Aherne and Oisin O’Sullivan scored for Athletic but it wasn’t enough to prevent a 5-3 loss.

Drinagh Rangers put in a sterling effort before bowing out of the cup after a 4-0 loss away to Carrigaline United.

Castlelack followed up their WCSSL Premier League and Cup double by dumping Corinthians out of the SFAI U15 Schoolboys National Cup in Brinny.

Jack Allen’s hat-trick, Sean Evans’ brace and a Darragh McKeown strike cemented a memorable 6-3 win for the Brinny club.

Lyre Rovers celebrated a famous U15 National Schoolboys Trophy win following a 5-2 triumph at home to Inishvilla last Sunday. Issac McInerney (2), Dara Ryan, Donnacha Ryan and Patrick O’Leary were on target for the WCSSL club.

A Dumebi Ogwudiegwu brace wasn’t enough to keep Ardfield in the same competition following a 3-2 loss at home to St Mary’s.

Clonakilty AFC were knocked out of the SFAI U16 National Schoolboys Cup despite a heroic effort in going down 2-0 to St Mary’s A in Ballyvackey.
