A 34-year-old warehouse worker who was found intoxicated in the car park of the West Cork Hotel was ordered to seek drug addiction treatment.

Ian Corcoran (34), of Church Road, Blackrock, Cork, pleaded guilty to a public order offence at Skibbereen District Court.

On January 1st, gardaí received a report of a domestic dispute at the West Cork Hotel, Skibbereen.

The defendant’s partner said her boyfriend had made off with the car keys.

Gardaí found Mr Corcoran drunk in the hotel’s car park at around 2.10am. He was arrested and taken to Skibbereen Garda station. 

In court the defendant said he had had problems with cocaine in the past but had been off drugs since January 3rd .

He also attended residential drug treatment in Kerry for 30 days.  

Mr Corcoran has five previous convictions and was last convicted for road traffic offences at Middleton District Court on April 3rd last.

He was fined €350 and banned from driving for two years.

At the time, he also received a three-months sentence, suspended for 12 months.

Judge Joanne Carroll admitted Mr Corcoran to a probation bond for 12 months, on condition that he attends drug addiction treatment.
