MOTORISTS taking the bend into Schull a bit too fast are soon to be chastised by a driver feedback sign, writes Jackie Keogh.
Cllr Finbarr Harrington (Ind) raised a motion at a meeting of the West Cork Municipal District meeting which called on Cork County council to install a driver feedback sign on the R592 at Cadogan’s strand cross.
He also made the case for similar driver feedback signs that warn motorists if they are above the speed limit for the East side N71 approach to Ballydehob, as well as the West and East side of St Matthew’s Church at Church Cross.

Feedback signs are effective tools, according to Cllr Harrington who described each of these three areas as ‘busy spots’ that require traffic calming measures.
Cllr Caroline Cronin (FG) pointed out that the junction at Cadogan Strand was recently upgraded to include a new footpath under the low-cost safety scheme and she said the driver feedback sign is to be part of the finished project.
Executive engineer, Kevin Lynch, informed the members that the sign will be installed soon. He said they are just waiting on the delivery of a pole from a supplier.
‘There are no plans currently to install driver feedback signs on the N71, the installation of which would be subject to both TII requirements and future funding,’ he added.
