CORK County Council has confirmed that it is about to conclude its report into the public consultation on the controversial Cork to Kinsale Greenway.

However the local authority said it will need to brief councillors from two municipal districts before landowners and homeowners will be updated on the project.

Over 2,000 submissions were made by members of the public last year on the project where almost most of the route is on private lands.

Some landowners cited the lack of information with many only hearing about it when they received letters from Cork National Roads Office last summer.

The threat of using CPOs (Compulsory Purchase Orders) led to claims that the consultation with landowners was skipped.

At last week’s meeting of Bandon Kinsale Municipal District Cllr John Collins (Ind) asked if council officials could engage more clearly with the affected landowners.

‘These people are still very concerned and are looking for answers. We still have no report though,’ said Cllr Collins.

‘They are very concerned that part of the work will proceed. €300,000 has been allocated in the next budget to progress to the next stage and they want to know what will be done with this money.’

Municipal district manager Padraig Barrett said the council will brief councillors tricts before engaging with  the landowners.
