A MAN who drove at members of the Emergency Response Unit after they intercepted a gang carrying out a burglary in Bandon has been given five months in prison and a four-year driving ban.
Jimmy Connors of 1 Willow Walk, Burnham Road, Dartford, Kent, England pleaded guilty at Bandon District Court to dangerous driving and driving without insurance during the course of an attempted burglary at a residence on Watergate Street in Bandon.
Sgt Tom Mulcahy told the court that on January 21st 2022 the defendant was driving a red Audi A6 which was collected in Cashel in Tipperary and later fitted with false registration plates.

‘During the course of a burglary gardaí intercepted him. He drove at members of the Emergency Response Unit putting their lives in danger,’ said Sgt Mulcahy.
The court that gardaí had to smash the driver’s window of the Audi to stop Mr Connors and it emerged that he had no insurance.
Judge Joanne Carroll was told that the defendant has 13 previous convictions and received a two-year sentence for the possession of a burglary kit and attempted burglary at Cork Circuit Court arising out of the incident in Bandon on January 21st 2022.
Barrister Ronan Barnes said most of his client’s previous convictions were accrued when he was a juvenile.
Judge Carroll sentenced him to five months on the dangerous driving charge and disqualified him for four years.
She also convicted him of driving without insurance.
