A ROW has erupted within the Independent Ireland party over a legal bid to stop a concert by controversial punk duo Bob Vylan.

Party leader and West Cork TD Michael Collins said he was unhappy that a Dublin-based Councillor initiated court proceedings, claiming they represented another Cork II TD, Ken O’Flynn.

Cllr Linda de Courcy said she objected to the dance and music licence for Vicar Street at Dublin District Court and was there on behalf of Kenneth O’Flynn.

She expressed her concerns about the planned concert by the duo at the Dublin venue on November 26th.

However, Deputy O’Flynn said he was not party to the court case but had written to the venue expressing his concerns about the planned gig.

Bob Vylan have courted controversy over their political stance on Gaza following an appearance in Glastonbury where the Israeli Defence Forces were criticised.

Deputy Collins, who only became aware of the issue on Monday evening, said he disagreed with Cllr de Courcy and said the party is not happy and it shouldn’t have been done in their name.

‘She had an objection against the musician playing and I have no issue with that, but an objection against a licence of a business is something I do object to,’ he said.

‘I’m fighting every day of the week for businesses to survive inside here (Leinster House) and for that to be done, it’s not done in Independent Ireland’s name. I will be speaking to her to make sure that she understands that, because I am not at all happy about what I read.’

Bob Vylan last played Ireland at the All Together Now festival in Waterford at the start of August.
