Buildings Beo, a new TG4 show coming to screens later this month, is a renovation show featuring major projects in Kinsale and Macroom, among others. Presented by Carrie Crowley, one episode to be aired next month follows the renovation of the Old Mill building in Kinsale, where it has been transformed into a new library and community space.

The building presented significant challenges for the team, as it has a protected status and a special location within an architectural protection zone. It was officially opened almost two years ago by then-Minister Heather Humphreys, and today functions as the town’s library. The episode will air during the show’s run, on December 10th on TG4.

Later in December, on Christmas Eve, the show will feature the restoration of the Briery Gap theatre in Macroom. A fire destroyed the building in May 2016, and during the programme viewers will hear from the community including the local drama group, talking about ‘the void left by the Briery Gap and the eagerness to see it restored to its former glory’.

The local projects are among six that feature in the show, exploring places where derelict architectural legacies are being preserved and transformed into vital community spaces.Throughout the series, Carrie meets with the builders, architects, and communities driving these restoration projects, offering viewers a behind-the-scenes look at the transformation process.

The show kicks off on November 19th with the restoration of the Blayney Castle/Hope Castle Lodge in Monaghan into a state-of-the-art library, followed the next week with a visit to Ballinamore Junction railway station in Leitrim. Other episodes will visit Mount Congreve estate in Waterford, and the Old Schoolhouse in Monkstown in south county Dublin.
