A COACHFORD woman who stole a ceramic mug from a local café and also took two bracelets from a table later returned the bracelets but not the cup, a court heard.
Emma O’Mahony (30) of 6 The Log Cabins, Coachford, Cork pleaded guilty at Macroom District Court to the theft of a ceramic cup and the possession of stolen property.
Sgt Trish O’Sullivan told the court that on July 13th 2024 the owners of The Boathouse Café in Coachford reported to gardaí that the accused had entered the premises and took two bracelets which were on a table and didn’t belong to her.

‘They also said she took a ceramic cup worth €25 and placed it in her handbag without paying for it. She returned later and handed back the bracelets but didn’t hand back the cup,’ said Sgt O’Sullivan.
The court heard that she has 14 previous convictions with 10 of those theft related.
Defence solicitor Patrick Goold said his client has been in Coolmine for treatment and her dad had €100 in court as compensation.
‘She has a drug addiction but is clean eight months and isn’t currently working,’ said Mr Goold.
Judge Joanne Carroll said that given that the accused is drugs free and that compensation has been paid she would admit her to a probation bond for 12 months on the theft charge and took into consideration the handling charge.
‘She must cooperate with the probation services, attend all her appointments and attend for drug addiction treatment and avail of counselling if advised,’ said Judge Carroll, who also indicated that €50 compensation was sufficient.
